Mellymade Designs   Textile Artist and Tutor

Hello my name  is Melanie Missin Keating.  I am A textile Artist and Tutor. I have been sewing and crafting for over 40 years. I have the most amazing Mum to thank for this. Paula Tapson, a truely inspirational artist in many things.

In the last 15 years I have been making patchwork quilts. I have now moved more into textile art. All the techniques I have learned so far are being used in all sorts of my creations and designs. I am still learning and will continue, I am sure, until I can no longer sew.

I have graduated the City and Guilds course 'Design and Craft/Patchwork and Quilting'. This was a two year course, which , unfortunately is no longer available. Fortunately Annette Morgan and her team from Creative Stitch Suffolk has devised an alternative. My tutor was the wonderful Mary Mcintosh, who has really helped me to improve my skills and love for textile Art. I have also been fortunate to attend workshops with various tutors which have inspired me to create something totally different but, most importantly, and given me the confidence to say 'I can do it'.

I run regular classes and workshops from my studio in Littleport. I also teach at a sewing shops and groups across the UK. I visit local and national groups such as the WI and give a talk on 'My Journey with Quilts to Infinity and Beyond!' I love meeting new people and sharing my knowledge, hoping to inspire other people.

I do sell some of my work in a fabulous shop, The Eel Catchers' Daughter In Ely, Cambridgeshire. My work is also available from my studio, 16 Main Street Littleport Cambs CB6 1PJ.

I am very fortunate that my hobby is my job and through it I have met and continue to meet some amazing, kind and talented people who are so generous with their knowledge and stash!

I hope I inspire you in the same way as other people have inspired me.

Sit, Sew and Create.
